On November 27, 2018 Jack Lenmark changed his stick tape from pink to lavender for our Hockey Fights Cancer fundraiser. Jack was hesitant to make this change since he tapes his stick pink for his sister Sophia. Jack agreed to change the tape on his stick when the team offered to tape all their sticks pink for his sister at their first home game.

Sophia Rebecca Lenmark was born in the morning of July 21, 2009. She weighed two and a half pounds and was eleven inches long. Although the doctors at Children’s Hospital of Minneapolis did everything they could, Sophia’s little heart was just too weak. Sophia passed away in the evening of the following day. Sophia left this world as she came into it, surrounded by the most loving people in the world, her family. Sophia’s Mommy (Alli) and Daddy (Dan), her big brother Jack, her grandparents and nearly all of her aunts and uncles were there to say goodbye to her. It was truly a beautiful moment as everyone was able to hold and kiss her for the first and last time.

In addition to the change in stick tape, the team is asking for donations to be made to Faith's Lodge, where the Lenmark's journey towards healing began.

More About Sophia

Sophia was born with a complex heart defect that was diagnosed when we were 20 weeks along in our pregnancy. Her actual diagnosis was Single Ventricle Defect. More specifically, her condition was known as Ventricular Inversion with a Hypoplastic (Underdeveloped) Right Ventricle along with Left Transposition of the Great Arteries and Complete Heart Block. Because of the electrical and the structural defects of her heart, Sophia was given a poor prognosis to make it to birth. At 28 weeks, Sophia went into the beginning stages of heart failure. The doctors decided it was time for Sophia to meet her family and to do whatever they could to improve the function of her heart.
